Patricia Cardona - Flute / Piccolo

Patricia Cardona - Sonare Artist
Patricia was born in La Mesa, California but grew up in New York, Hawaii and Oregon as her father was in the Navy. Currently she is a junior at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance pursuing a Music Performance degree under the instruction of Molly Barth, and a minor in German.  Patricia has been the principal flute and piccoloist in the Oregon Wind Ensemble, a member of the University Symphony Orchestra and the Oregon Marching Band, as well as a Gamelan Ensemble and a flute and guitar duo. She is passionate about world music and also studies African dance and drumming. 

Patricia debuted with the Salem Chamber Orchestra and the Salem Youth Symphony in 2008, and the Salem POPs Orchestra in 2009.  In the Spring of 2010 Patricia was a featured artist for the Salem Community Concert Associations, Rising Stars Concert. In the Summer of 2009 she performed at the Glenn Miller Festival in Clarinda, Iowa and then volunteered as a musician for the Eugene, Shakespeare in the Park series for the month of August, and has since been a pit musician in other community productions. Sonare Winds, a division of Vern Q. Among her accomplishments, Patricia was a finalist in the 2010 -2011 MTNA NW Division Young Artist Woodwind competition; and in 2009 she was NW Division Senior Woodwind alternate, as well as the Naitonal Alternate in 2008.  Also in 2008,  she received the National Arts in Action, Live on Stage scholarship, the John Phillip Sousa Award, and was a national finalist for JFK Center/National Symphony Orchestra National Trustees' Summer Music Institute. In High School Patricia placed first and second at OSAA State Solo/Ensemble, was three-time OMEA District 4 Champion, and has been principal flute/piccolo for Salem Youth Symphony, City, State, Oahu, and NW honor bands.

Patricia has also performed in master classes and/or had private lessons with Michel Debost, Jim Walker, Brad Garner, Jill Felber, Marianne Gedigian, Walfrid Kujala, Lorna McGhee, Mary Karen Clardy, Zart Dombourian-Eby, Luis Juilio Toro, Christinna Jennings, Marina Piccinini and others. She is the former student of Sandy Duffy-Norman of RoseWynde Flute and Harp Duo, as well as Sabrina Saiki-Mita at Punahou Conservatory and University of Hawaii.

Patricia regularly performs throughout her community for fundraisers, weddings and other events and is available by appointment to conduct clinics or recitals for Sonare Winds (www.sonarewinds.com).
